Mokopane Destiny Academy learners Kaden Khumalo and Anga Chewane honored as ‘agents of the day’ for helping repaint Mokopane’s iconic northern train landmark.

On August 22, Mokopane residents joined a community clean-up to repaint and restore the town’s iconic train landmark at its northern entrance, with two students from Mokopane Destiny Academy publicly acknowledged for their hands-on role in the effort.

The iconic train at Mokopane’s northern entrance was refreshed through volunteer labor, with residents cleaning debris and applying fresh paint to restore its appearance as part of a broader civic initiative. Kaden Khumalo and Anga Chewane, both students at Mokopane Destiny Academy, were officially recognized as ‘agents of the day’ for their active participation in the painting and cleanup efforts.

The initiative, named Love My Mokopane, framed the project as an expression of civic pride, emphasizing collective action over mere maintenance to foster community ownership. Sponsorship for the project included paint donated by Sue van der Merwe and waste disposal support from Mogalakwena Municipality, which provided a skip for litter removal.

The event saw widespread local participation, with residents actively engaged in picking up litter and applying paint, reflecting strong community commitment to improving public spaces. Organizers are inviting residents to participate in the next Love My Mokopane clean-up scheduled for September 19, encouraging ongoing involvement in town beautification efforts.

The refreshed train now stands as a visible symbol of what local collaboration can achieve, reinforcing civic identity and inspiring residents to take shared responsibility for their environment. Contact information for Love My Mokopane, including Instagram, Facebook, email, and phone number, was shared to enable residents to join future initiatives and coordinate volunteer efforts.
