Durban High School graduate Reuban Haylock to compete in Aquatics World Cup in Central Asia this October

Reuban Haylock, a 19-year-old swimmer from Amanzimtoti and recent graduate of Durban High School, has earned a spot to represent South Africa at the Aquatics World Cup in Central Asia this October, following relentless training and community-backed efforts to fund his international debut.

Haylock graduated from Durban High School last year and has dedicated himself to intensive training since then, which directly resulted in his selection for the Aquatics World Cup. He represents Seagulls Swim Club/McLeod Swimming, a club known for producing Olympians, and aims to honor that legacy through his performance on the global stage.

Haylock described the upcoming competition as the biggest stage of his career so far and a defining moment that will launch his journey as an international athlete. His mother, Nadia Haylock, highlighted that his success stems from dedication, discipline, and the strong support of his community, urging others to help him reach this milestone.

To cover the costs of international travel and competition, the Haylock family has launched a BackaBuddy fundraising campaign to ensure Reuban can participate in the Aquatics World Cup. The campaign invites community members to donate or share Reuban’s story, emphasizing that even non-financial support helps bring him closer to competing on the world stage.

The Aquatics World Cup in Central Asia is scheduled for October, marking Haylock’s first major international competition after completing his matriculation year. Haylock intends to use this opportunity to represent South Africa, his club, family, and supporters, aiming to build a legacy of excellence inspired by past Olympians from his swim club.
