The workshop, held at Durban North College, was organized by Durban Schools Football and marked its third year under director Stef Crasso’s leadership, reinforcing structured development for girls’ football in the region. Former Banyana Banyana players Nelly Bhengu, Thandeka Kheswa, and Veronica Phewa led the training, focusing on passing fundamentals and movement, sharing practical coaching insights with the participants.
The event was part of Women’s Month celebrations and aimed to provide young girls with role models who have competed at the highest level, inspiring confidence and ambition in their athletic journeys. Durban North College served as both the venue and opponent in the concluding friendly match, where the girls’ team won 1–0, demonstrating the impact of targeted coaching and competitive exposure.
DSF director Stef Crasso emphasized that the initiative seeks to establish more than occasional opportunities, aiming for a permanent Women’s Football Centre in Durban to ensure long-term growth. The workshop included girls from multiple schools across eThekwini, with Holy Family College among those represented, reflecting broad regional participation and interest in girls’ football development.
The event was reported by Caxton Local Media journalist Sibongiseni Maphumulo, who joined in 2024 as a community news journalist covering the Berea Mail area and focuses on positive local impact through storytelling. Durban North College’s involvement as host and opponent underscores its role as a key venue for advancing girls’ football in the region, providing infrastructure and competitive platforms for emerging talent.
