Joe Solomon Primary reopens after R45 million refurbishment

A major refurbishment gave Joe Solomon Primary School renewed teaching spaces while preserving the school’s heritage administration building.

Joe Solomon Primary School in Heidedal, Bloemfontein, was formally handed back to the education community on 15 October 2021 after an extensive refurbishment.

The government advisory described a R45 million project supported by AVBOB. It said the school served about 1,401 learners with 42 educators, while the construction work created more than 400 local job opportunities. The school’s heritage administration building was retained as part of the redevelopment.

The project combined new learning infrastructure with continuity for a long-established community school. For learners and staff, the handover meant returning to a campus designed for present-day teaching without erasing the institution’s local history.
