Western Cape school admissions appeals open through 14 August

Parents who need to challenge an on-time Grade R, 1 or 8 placement in Western Cape public schools can submit an appeal from 1 to 14 August 2026, according to WCED.

The Western Cape Education Department has opened a short appeals window for families who need to challenge an on-time Grade R, 1 or 8 school placement. WCED says appeals to the Minister are open online from 1 to 14 August 2026.

The department's guidance also lists a separate transfer window for learners moving schools because of relocation: applications for Grades 2 to 7 and 9 to 12 run from 3 to 17 August. Families who still need a placement can contact their nearest district office for assistance.

An appeal is separate from the original application and placement-acceptance process. Families should use the official WCED instructions, keep their application details available and submit any required supporting information before the relevant deadline.
