What this role involves
This is a teaching and curriculum-leadership post with a focus on Afrikaans, Afrikaans FAL, English, English HL, Life Skills, Mathematics, Grades 1, 2, 3. Alongside your own teaching load, you will lead the department or phase, support educators, coordinate curriculum delivery and assessment, monitor learner performance and keep the department functioning effectively.
- Teach according to the post-level workload, including the focus on Afrikaans, Afrikaans FAL, English, English HL, Life Skills, Mathematics, Grades 1, 2, 3.
- Lead curriculum planning, pacing, assessment and moderation across the department, subject or phase.
- Monitor learner performance and coordinate practical intervention where results or progress need attention.
- Guide, support and develop educators, including classroom and instructional support where required.
- Manage departmental records, resources, meetings and communication with school management and parents.
- Coordinate relevant extra- and co-curricular responsibilities connected to the department or phase.

- This post is in a D-CAPS context, so teaching, pacing, assessment and learner support must be adapted to the curriculum and support needs of the learners served by the school.
- Grades covered by the post: 1, 2, 3.
- For language teaching, plan across listening and speaking, reading and viewing, writing and presenting, and language structures at the advertised HL, FAL or other level where specified.
- For Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, expect structured problem-solving, clear conceptual development, regular practice, formal assessment and targeted support based on learner performance.
- In Foundation Phase, teaching should integrate strong literacy, numeracy and Life Skills routines, frequent observation and assessment, and early intervention where learners need extra support.
- As Departmental Head, coordinate D-CAPS implementation, assessment quality, moderation and learner-performance follow-up across the department, subject or phase.
- Also prepare for this post-specific requirement: Experience in Inclusive Education & Special School. Education Management of Adapted CAPS Curriculum. Able to teach in both English & Afrikaans.
