What this role involves
This is a learner-support teaching post with a focus on English, Mathematics, Grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. You will identify and respond to barriers to learning, plan targeted support, work with teachers and school support structures, track learner progress and help learners access the curriculum successfully.
- Provide targeted teaching and learning support in English, Mathematics, Grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
- Identify barriers to learning and help plan appropriate classroom, small-group or individual support.
- Work with class teachers, the school-based support team, parents and relevant support services.
- Record interventions and learner progress, and adjust support when evidence shows it is needed.
- Help educators adapt teaching, assessment and learning access for learners who require additional support.
Curriculum and teaching
CAPS and teaching focus
- Teaching focus: English, Mathematics, Grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
- Plan teaching, pacing and assessment against the applicable CAPS requirements for the advertised grades, subjects and phase.
- Grades covered by the post: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
- For language teaching, plan across listening and speaking, reading and viewing, writing and presenting, and language structures at the advertised HL, FAL or other level where specified.
- For Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, expect structured problem-solving, clear conceptual development, regular practice, formal assessment and targeted support based on learner performance.
- In Foundation Phase, teaching should integrate strong literacy, numeracy and Life Skills routines, frequent observation and assessment, and early intervention where learners need extra support.
- Support should help learners participate in and progress through the curriculum, with teaching and assessment adjusted appropriately to identified support needs.
- Also prepare for this post-specific requirement: A basic teacher qualification and registration with SACE.
